The National Science Foundation (NSF) has launched a new multi-agency initiative to expand artificial intelligence readiness across the United States by establishing AI-focused hubs in every state and territory.
It focuses on three priorities: expanding AI literacy and workforce skills, enabling small businesses and local governments to adopt AI tools, and developing hands-on learning pathways through internships and project-based training programs.
The initiative, called TechAccess: AI-Ready America, is being rolled out in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, U.S. Department of Labor, and the Small Business Administration.
It will support up to 56 state- and territory-based Coordination Hubs, with NSF committing up to $1 million annually per hub for three years, and a possible fourth year for select participants.
“America’s AI competitiveness depends on a strong research and development ecosystem paired with access to advanced science and technology knowledge for our current and future workforce. NSF AI-Ready America provides that foundation, giving workers, businesses, and communities in every state and territory the tools and knowledge to advance AI together,” said Brian Stone, current NSF director.
The initiative also aligns with the White House’s AI Action Plan and will focus on expanding AI literacy, supporting small businesses and local governments in adopting AI, and building hands-on learning pathways such as internships.
