The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is preparing to roll out an AI workforce hub in the coming months to provide data-driven insights into how artificial intelligence is reshaping jobs and the broader economy, according to DOL Chief Innovation Officer Taylor Stockton.
“There’s incredible data that’s out there in the private sector that really has leading indicators on the changes that are being seen in the economy and I think we’re encouraged, because a lot of these companies have never shared data publicly or with the federal government in this way,” Stockton said.
The platform will deliver recurring analysis, scenario planning, and actionable insights to inform workforce and education policy. The goal is to move beyond speculation and ground discussions about AI in measurable economic evidence, including productivity shifts and changing job demand.
First outlined in the Donald Trump administration’s AI Action Plan, the hub will serve as a centralized platform to evaluate AI’s impact on workers, industries, and skills demand. It builds on recent DOL efforts, including a new open data portal, AI literacy framework, and workforce development initiatives with the National Science Foundation. It will also incorporate input from labor unions and industry stakeholders.
The initiative brings together the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau, and Bureau of Economic Analysis, along with private-sector partners contributing previously unreleased datasets.
Once launched, the platform is expected to become a key resource for policymakers, businesses, and workers navigating AI-driven transformation.
