The U.S. Department of War has announced a new partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its enterprise artificial intelligence platform, GenAI.mil, expanding access to advanced language model capabilities across the force.
Under the agreement, ChatGPT will be available to all 3 million military and civilian personnel, supporting mission execution, readiness, and day-to-day operations.
“ChatGPT will be made available to enhance mission execution and readiness, delivering reliable capabilities to the joint force,” the Department of War said in a media update.
Officials said the integration is designed to enhance operational tempo and improve decision-making across the joint force by embedding AI tools directly into workflows.
The move builds on the rapid growth of GenAI.mil, which has surpassed 1 million unique users since its launch in December and has expanded across all military services.
Department leaders described the platform as a unified AI environment aimed at accelerating responsible AI adoption at scale. With strong early adoption and enterprise-wide reach, GenAI.mil is positioned as a central pillar of the department’s broader AI modernization strategy, enabling personnel to leverage generative AI tools in secure and mission-focused settings.
