The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) showcased the first public demonstration of its Genesis Mission platform on Wednesday, drawing strong interest from attendees at the agency’s technology summit in Washington, D.C., FedScoop reported.

The pre-recorded demo, presented just before the lunch break, was one of the most anticipated moments of the event. The platform is designed to provide researchers, national laboratories and industry partners with streamlined access to advanced AI models, computing resources and scientific tools.

Users will be able to access frontier AI models through the platform’s Model Access Gateway. The platform will also provide access to simulation agents, national laboratory datasets and DOE-developed model context protocol tools. Users can build and connect their own tools through open protocols, creating integrated scientific workflows.

The report also states the Oak Ridge National Laboratory helped develop the platform’s single sign-on capability, which allows users from partner institutions to access Genesis Mission resources through a federated identity system.

“We were tackling both sides of the problem in the past several months,” said Gina Tourassi, associate laboratory director for computing and computational sciences at Oak Ridge. “So I’m very excited.”
