The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has launched a new artificial intelligence initiative to accelerate the delivery of intelligence and operational insights to military commanders worldwide.
Called the Agent Network, the program is the second of seven flagship projects under the department’s AI Acceleration Strategy. The initiative will be led by the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office in collaboration with U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. Southern Command, and U.S. European Command.
“Agent Network delivers on the Department’s commitment to field AI capabilities with speed and accountability. By pairing established defense technology leaders with innovative new entrants, we are building an interoperable network of AI agents that gives commanders faster access to better information while keeping human judgment at the center of every targeting decision. This is warfighting AI at operational scale,” said Cameron Stanley, the Department’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Officer.
The network will connect mission-focused AI agents with military users, helping analyze operational data, recommend potential courses of action, and streamline tasks that currently require extensive manual coordination.
The program aims to rapidly deploy combat-ready AI capabilities that strengthen national defense, improve precision and accountability, and help minimize collateral damage. It will undergo rigorous testing, evaluation, and oversight to ensure mission effectiveness while meeting U.S. legal and ethical standards.
