Verizon Names Alfonso Villanueva Chief Transformation Officer

Alfonso Villanueva, Verizon Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer

Telecom major Verizon has named Alfonso Villanueva as Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer. Villanueva brings more than 20 years of global experience in strategy, corporate development, transformation, data science, and innovation across leading technology and financial services organizations.

In this role, Villanueva leads Verizon’s Transformation Organization, which is focused on developing the company’s digital infrastructure and advancing the capabilities needed to support customer experience and long-term growth. The organization is responsible for helping the company execute its strategic priorities and scale the innovation, technologies, and investments highlighted in Verizon’s transformation plans.

Most recently, Villanueva led Albar Court Ventures, a firm focused on strategic technology investments. Before that, he served as Executive Vice President of Strategy, Corporate Development, and Data Science at PayPal, where he helped shape the company’s strategic roadmap, led its mergers and acquisitions activities, expanded data and analytics capabilities, and oversaw venture investments. He also led the Office of the CEO, driving initiatives that supported the company’s growth and transformation.

Earlier in his career, Villanueva was a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he led the Telecom, Media & Technology practice across Asia Pacific and advised major global companies. He also served as Chief Innovation Officer at SingTel, where he helped launch the company’s digital division and venture fund. Villanueva serves on the boards of Bankinter and Europ Assistance, where he chairs the Audit Committee. He holds an MBA with Highest Distinction from London Business School and an MA with Highest Distinction from Northeastern University.

Verizon states that Villanueva and his team will help drive the company’s efforts to strengthen customer value, enhance the impact of its resources and capabilities, and support the next phase of its growth through technology-driven transformation.
