For the week of June 22, highlighted in this edition, we feature key leadership updates at the State of California, Teradata, and Banner Health, alongside several other notable appointments recently spotlighted on CDO Magazine.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed John Ohanian as Statewide Chief Data Officer at the Office of Data and Innovation. Ohanian transitions to the statewide role from the California Department of Health Care Services, where he served as Senior Policy Advisor for Data Exchange. He brings extensive public sector experience, including a five-year tenure as Chief Data Officer and Director of the Center for Data Insights at the California Health and Human Services Agency.

Teradata has expanded Josh Fecteau’s responsibilities, naming him Chief Data and AI Officer and Chief Information Officer (CDAO & CIO). Fecteau, who has led Teradata’s enterprise Data & AI organization since 2025, will now also oversee the company’s Technology Services division. His consolidated remit focuses on removing operational friction and deploying internal AI agents to drive faster, smarter decisions across infrastructure and business operations.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has appointed Richard Lowe as Chief Data & Analytics Officer for its Asia Pacific Division, based in Singapore. Lowe brings more than 20 years of financial services experience, most recently serving as Managing Director and Group CDO at United Overseas Bank (UOB). In this newly established regional role, he will focus on driving a world-class AI and advanced analytics agenda across the APAC ecosystem.

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has named CDO Magazine Global Board member Sravan Kasarla as Senior Vice President, Global Head of Data and Analytics. Kasarla joins BHSI from Commonwealth Financial Network, where he was Chief Data Officer. In his new capacity, he will lead the transformation of BHSI’s data ecosystem, modernizing its data architecture and establishing the master data management foundations necessary to scale global operations.

Banner Health has appointed Dr. John Rares Almasan as Senior Vice President and inaugural Chief AI, Data and Infrastructure Officer. Moving from his previous role as Global Head of AI and Emerging Technology at TIAA, Dr. Almasan will unify Banner Health’s technology infrastructure and AI capabilities. His leadership will center on building secure, intelligent systems designed to reduce administrative friction for clinicians and simplify healthcare access for patients.
