We are pleased to announce Sonali Mathur as the newest member of CDO Magazine’s Global Board. Mathur is Vice President of Data Strategy & Governance at Humana, where she also serves as Chief Data Governance Officer. In this role, she leads enterprise-wide data strategy, governance, and protection initiatives, partnering closely with executive leadership to ensure data is trusted, secure, and strategically aligned to business outcomes within a highly regulated healthcare environment. Her work focuses on establishing strong data foundations that enable innovation while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, privacy, and compliance.
Mathur brings extensive experience driving large-scale enterprise data transformation across global organizations. At Humana, she plays a critical role in transforming the company’s data ecosystem by spearheading the enterprise data governance program and establishing a cross-functional Data Council alongside a robust stewardship operating model, with clear metrics and accountability reported directly to the C suite. She is currently leading the execution of a multi-year data strategy supported by significant investment, strengthening data quality and trust, discoverability, metadata management, and responsible data use. These efforts are helping accelerate and scale AI adoption across the enterprise.
Prior to joining Humana, Mathur served as Head of Data, Technology and Operations at General Motors. There, she led enterprise-wide data transformation initiatives, including cloud enablement, data product management, unifying consent and preference management, and the modernization of data platforms across the organization, supporting 100+M customers and dealer interactions.
Known for her inclusive, people-centered leadership style, Mathur is deeply committed to mentoring women and underrepresented talent in data and technology. Outside of work, she actively supports STEM education by coaching girls’ and high school robotics teams, encouraging more young people, especially girls, to pursue careers in STEM.
