Sameer Gupta, Lloyds Banking Group Chief Data and AI Officer
Lloyds Banking Group has appointed Sameer Gupta as Chief Data and AI Officer, with his tenure set to begin in June. He will report to Ron van Kemenade, Group Chief Operating Officer.
In this role, Gupta will lead the next phase of the Group’s artificial intelligence strategy, overseeing the scaling of AI across the business. His remit includes driving adoption to enhance customer experience, strengthen fraud prevention, and equip employees with improved tools and insights, while supporting long-term growth through AI-led innovation.
A key focus of the role is ensuring the responsible, transparent, and secure use of AI, supported by strong governance and alignment with regulatory and ethical standards.
Gupta joins from DBS Bank in Singapore, where he currently serves as Chief Analytics Officer. He brings more than 30 years of experience leading large-scale technology and AI-driven transformation initiatives across financial services. At DBS, he played a central role in embedding AI across the organization to improve decision-making, productivity, and customer outcomes, with the bank’s AI transformation later featured as a Harvard Business School case study.
“Lloyds Banking Group has a clear purpose and a strong focus on supporting customers, and I’m excited to join at a time when AI can make such a positive difference,” Gupta said. “Used well, AI can help customers get the right support more quickly, protect them from fraud and make managing money simpler and more intuitive.”
