David Rice, HSBC Chief AI Officer

HSBC Holdings plc has named David Rice as its first Chief AI Officer. In this newly created role, Rice will lead enterprise-wide AI adoption to support HSBC’s ambition of building a future-ready bank that integrates AI solutions to benefit colleagues and customers.

The position comes as the bank expands access to generative AI tools, streamlines processes, and equips customer-facing teams with AI capabilities to deliver more personalized services.

Georges Elhedery, Group CEO of HSBC, highlighted AI’s central role in the bank’s strategy, noting the importance of enabling colleagues to use AI safely, responsibly, and at scale, while retaining human judgment and accountability.

“AI is going to play an ever-increasing role in HSBC’s future plans, so I am thrilled to take on this new role to help us drive forward our transformation agenda,” said Rice.

Rice previously served as Chief Operating Officer for HSBC’s Corporate and Institutional Banking business.
