(US and Canada) We are pleased to welcome Christina Sandema-Sombe to CDO Magazine’s Global Editorial Board. Sombe serves as the Chief Data Steward at NIKE Inc., overseeing the strategy and execution of stewardship practices at scale.

Sombe plays a crucial role in the organization’s data governance office. Her contributions include establishing governance guidelines and regulations and ensuring compliance through policies and standards. She also works closely with Data Trustees to clarify data responsibilities and accountabilities, implementing governance practices tailored to specific domains. 

Additionally, Sombe develops, shares, and manages the collective knowledge of Data Governance within the organization, enabling the execution of governance practices at scale while aligning with established policies and standards. She fosters connections and interactions between individuals, processes, and technology to enhance stewardship efforts.

Sombe empowers Data Trustees, Stewards, and Guardians through change management strategies, granting them the necessary authority and support to carry out their roles effectively. This is achieved by leveraging top-down initiatives led by executives. In addition to these responsibilities, she actively supports the Enterprise Data Council and promotes collaboration through the facilitation of a Data Stewardship Community of Practice. These initiatives encourage collective knowledge sharing and collaboration among data governance practitioners in the organization.
