OpenAI said it is creating a new company focused on helping organizations deploy artificial intelligence systems at scale, backed by more than $4 billion in initial investment.
The new unit, called OpenAI Deployment Company, will be majority owned and controlled by OpenAI and is designed to accelerate enterprise adoption of advanced AI technologies.
As part of the effort, OpenAI will acquire AI consulting firm Tomoro, bringing roughly 150 AI engineers and deployment specialists into the new operation. Tomoro, founded in 2023 in partnership with OpenAI, has worked with clients including Mattel, Tesco, and Virgin Atlantic.
The deployment company will embed engineers inside client organizations to identify where AI can have the greatest operational impact and support implementation across business functions.
The move reflects OpenAI’s growing focus on enterprise customers following widespread consumer adoption of ChatGPT. It also comes amid intensifying competition in the corporate AI market, where rivals such as Anthropic have been expanding adoption of their own models among businesses.
OpenAI said the new venture is intended to help organizations move more quickly from AI experimentation to large-scale operational deployment.
