The Gates Foundation and Anthropic have announced a multi-year partnership aimed at expanding access to artificial intelligence tools in healthcare, education, and agriculture, particularly in low- and middle-income countries and underserved communities worldwide.
The collaboration includes $200 million over four years in grant funding, API credits, and technical support to develop AI-driven tools and shared public resources such as datasets, benchmarks, and infrastructure.
The initiative is focused on making advanced AI technologies more accessible and practical for frontline workers, researchers, educators, and policymakers by integrating AI into existing systems and local contexts.
In healthcare, the partnership will support AI applications for vaccine development, disease tracking, and medical research. Early projects include tools related to childhood vaccines, cervical cancer prevention, and treatment approaches for preeclampsia. The effort will also modernize public health data systems and support work with organizations such as the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
In education, the partnership will focus on improving AI systems that help teachers identify learning gaps earlier and provide more personalized support for students. The initiative also aims to build AI-enabled tools for college and career guidance.
Agriculture-related efforts will center on providing farmers with localized, real-time guidance on crop management, soil health, livestock care, and market conditions, delivered in local languages and designed to work at scale.
The two organizations said the broader goal is to ensure that AI development benefits communities that have historically lacked access to advanced technologies, while creating shared public resources adaptable across countries and sectors.
