Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud Partner on AI Agent to Modernize 5G Network Operations

Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud have announced a new partnership to deploy an artificial intelligence-powered agent designed to improve Radio Access Network (RAN) operations as telecom infrastructure grows more complex.

The system, known as RAN Guardian, has been developed using Gemini 2.0 within Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform. The AI agent is designed to monitor network behavior, detect performance irregularities, and take corrective action to strengthen reliability, lower operating costs, and enhance the customer experience.

RAN Guardian has been tested and validated within Deutsche Telekom’s network environment. The agent identifies anomalies, classifies issues, and can execute self-healing measures to optimize network performance.

“Traditional network management approaches are no longer sufficient to meet the demands of 5G and beyond. We are pioneering AI agents for networks, working with key partners like Google Cloud to unlock a new level of intelligence and automation in RAN operations as a step towards autonomous, self-healing networks,” said Abdu Mudesir, Group CTO, Deutsche Telekom.

Beyond Gemini 2.0 in Vertex AI, the platform integrates additional Google Cloud services, including Cloud Run, BigQuery, and Firestore. Together, these technologies support continuous monitoring of key performance indicators, automated issue classification using multiple data sources, and proactive optimization measures such as resource reallocation and configuration adjustments.
